Again, the Kampers lucked out with beautiful weather on our September trip to Halloways in Big Bear. Joining the wagonmaster, Virginia Grindley, was her sister, Diana, John Puckett, Patty Bauman and Jimmy Miller. Our spots at Halloways were great and overlooked the Marina. The staff at Holloways was so very helpful and pleasant to our group. Other Kampers who did not bring their rigs included Sherri Jones and Jim Porter, who rented a cute little cottage close by the campgrounds, as well as Bobby and Paula Williams, who have a cabin in Big Bear.
We planned this kamping trip around Big Bear’s Octoberfest celebration. The group was able to get a little taste of Germany with different foods and, of course, some beer. We also played some local games and listened to some great music. The girls even had some time to hit the quaint little shops that Big Bear is known for, while the guys checked out the local pubs and visited the local Elks Lodge.
Early Friday morning, Bobby and John were able to hit the lake to do some fishing in Bobby’s Pontoon boat. They even had some luck and caught some keepers. Others, Virginia and Diana, weren’t so lucky. When they went fishing, both girls caught 4” baby fishes at the same time, but had to throw them back due to the size limit. They did, however, catch some bug bites which they had to keep.
Bobbie and Paula invited the group over on Saturday and fed us lots of hors d’oeuvres and drinks. We can not thank them enough for hosting us.
Virginia and John and Diana took an off road tour in Diana’s jeep through the local mountains. It was a good time with lots of great scenery.
Bobby Williams won free kampout but donated it to John Puckett. Our next trip is scheduled for November 14-17 at Rincon State Beach. We are gathering kindling and wood for bonfires on the beach.
We are all looking forward to the Holiday Brunch on December 8th at the Palm Garden Hotel. We are expecting a lot of good food and great raffle prizes. Buy your tickets after November 1st at the Lodge Bar.
